Psych 101 - Introductory Psychology

Course Description:
A general survey course designed to provide the student with an understanding of the basic concepts and techniques of modern psychology as a behavioural science.

Expanded Course Description:
A study of the basic principles and methods of contemporary psychology with the goal of understanding how organisms, both human and infrahuman, perceive their environments, how their behaviour is modified by experience, and how their activities are instigated, sustained, and directed.

Topics include:
history and methods; the nervous system; lifespan development; sensing and perceiving; consciousness; learning; remembering; thinking, language, and intelligence; motivation; emotion; social behaviour; personality; psychological disorders; therapy.

Psych 398 - Research in Memory

Course Description:
Current topics in the study of human memory will be covered. Emphasis will be placed on research methods and procedures. Activities will include exams, research reports, and individual research presentations.

Topics include:
history of memory research; methods of memory research; short-term and working memory; episodic long-term memory; semantic long-term memory; metamemory; autobiographical memory; memory and the law; amnesia and memory disorders; and other topics of interest.

Prereqs: Psych 207 or 261; and Psych 291, 292; Honours Psychology or Make-Up Psychology students.
