Dr. Bessma Momani is Associate Professor in the department of Political Science at the University of Waterloo in Canada and the Balsillie School of International Affairs.

 

She is also a Senior Fellow at the Centre For International Governance and Innovation, a think-tank in Waterloo, Canada.

 

Dr. Momani is a regular contributor to national and international media on the Arab Spring and on global economic governance issues.

 

She is a specialist on the International Monetary Fund and on economic liberalization in the Middle East. The author of several books and scholarly articles, her work examines the intersection between international economics, finance, and global politics.

Current Research

With the international financial crisis coming to an end and increased upheaval in the Middle East, Dr. Momani has been working on global economic governance and the implications of this transformative economic change on Arab countries.

Dr. Momani has also been widely commenting in the media, including a regular feature on Huffington Post, on the Arab Spring and on the economic governance challenges faced by the international community. See Media contents for latest commentary.

Dr. Momani's research on the International Monetary Fund (IMF), an international financial institution, has focussed on the politicization of the organization, organizational culture, staff recruitment, efforts to reform the organization, and the Fund's political history.

Publications on Middle East Economies

Dr. Momani's research on the Middle East has explored free trade, investments, petrodollars, and debt negotiations throughout the region. The economic and political outlook of the region undergoing the dramatic transformations of 2011 is also considered.
