“It is something -- it can be everything -- to have found a fellow bird
with whom you can sit among the rafters while the drinking and boasting
and reciting and fighting go on below."

--Wallace Stegner

A few words about me: I am an associate professor of History at the University of Waterloo. I am the author of two books: The Turning: A History of Vietnam Veterans Against the War and David Dellinger: The Life and Times of a Nonviolent Revolutionary. I am the co-author of Social History of the United States: The 1980s with Peter Holloran. I have received a grant from the Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) to write a biography of Senator George McGovern. I am obsessed with President Ronald Reagan and read just about everything ever written about him.

I also love to research and write about contemporary politics, popular culture and American society. I've taught courses about the Vietnam War, American Conspiracy Theories, the American West, the Civil Rights Movement, the September 11 Terror Attacks and American Cultural History. I have loved movies ever since the age of five and I'm an avid film buff.

I live in Waterloo with my kids, Madeline and Aidan, my two cats, Scotch and Gibson, and a bearded dragon who is temperamental but lovable. My companion is Luisa D'Amato, an incredibly gifted journalist, singer and teacher (like me). I have recently converted to a vegan lifestyle and I've always been deeply concerned about human and animal rights. In my spare time, I love to write, play video games, read mysteries and spend time with the people I love.
