Teaching & Learning
Connected students
From liberal studies to specialized programs, our students combine breadth with depth in their academic programs. In all we do, a key goal of Arts teaching and learning is for students to graduate with new insight and understanding of our diverse world, and of their own potential to contribute.
Dedicated teachers
Teachers in Arts, both faculty members and lecturers, demonstrate outstanding commitment to sharing knowledge and developing new perspectives with and among thier students. One way this is recognized is through uWaterloo's Distinguished Teacher awards, of which Arts teachers receive the greatest proportion among the six Waterloo faculties.
If there is one thing all Arts teachers strive to instill in their students, it is curiosity and a love of learning. Read what they have to say about their teaching:
>> teaching is my passion, and is the reason I became a professor...
>> I love being at the centre of a class of students who are energetically discussing and debating...
>> it's really gratifying to see the level of critical discourse grow and develop over the term...
>> best of all is when students really get into the readings and come up with fresh insights...
>> I never walk away from these courses without learning as much as my students...
