You don't have to be a sculptor or a trained musician to benefit from the Fine and Performing Arts program. Experiencing dance, drama, fine arts, and music in the classroom and the studio adds diversity to any academic program and to your life at the same time.
Our program combines academic and practical courses, with plenty of chance to gain hands-on experience. You'll have the opportunity to create paintings and sculptures, learn printmaking, or develop your eye as a photographer. You'll have the chance to perform with a choir or instrumental group, or act in a play.
Your professors will be working artists, musicians and directors, and you'll have access to "state-of-the-arts" facilities. You'll also have plenty of opportunity to visit galleries and attend performances.
Perhaps you were the one who was in all your high school drama productions but also knew you wanted to be a scientist. For you the Fine and Performing Arts program may be a necessary balance to other parts of your life. A creative discipline such as fine arts can complement the more traditional lecture-based programs offered on campus.
Maybe you're looking to reinforce your main academic interest with expertise in a special area. For example, you may be an Honours Arts and Business Co-op student specializing in Cultural Management, with a special interest in fine arts; an Economics student who is passionate about performance; a Religious Studies student who is interested in music.
Or perhaps you want to combine arts with another major. For example, if you're studying computer science, you may want to take electronic imaging courses. If you're studying psychology, you might want to explore art and music as a means of expressing personality.
