How do I print?

Given that you’ve created your printing account and you have money on your printing account, do the following:

  1. Select the Print command from the File menu.
  2. On the Print properties window, make sure the Name of the printer is “\\*******\q_arts”. Instead of stars, you may see "nxsartsapp" or "langlab" - it shouldn't matter. **
  3. Click the Print button on the Print properties window.
  4. Proceed to the release monitor (these are located in the same rooms as public printers).
  5. Click on your UW studentID; all the print jobs you’ve sent will come up on the screen.
  6. Choose (for each print job) whether you want to Hold, Print, or Delete it.
  7. If you are in the PAS building, choose which printer you would like to print it on – either p_pas1 or p_pas2. HH236 only has one printer.
  8. Choose to either Submit your printing request or Cancel it.
  9. Wait for your documents to be printed.

** If the q_arts printer is not available, go to Start > Run, type q:\arts\printers\q_arts.cmd, and hit enter. Cancel printing the document and try again; the printer should be available.

Where are the public printers and scanners located? Where will the printed pages come out?

There are printers located in PAS1099 and one in HH236. A scanner is available in PAS1099 as well.

"Userid is not registered to print" error or "no such userid" error

You can likely solve this problem by adding your userid to the printing database.

"Userid is expired" error

There are two ways to reactivate an expired printing account:

  1. Add funds to your printing account.
  2. Visit the ACO Help Desk.

"User is out of funds" error

This means that you have run out of money on your Printing Account. You can add funds to your Printing Account.

Blank sheets are printed

If the first page(s) were printed but the rest are blank, it's likely that your printing balance was exhausted after the last printed page. Add funds to your printing balance, and then re-print the unprinted pages.

Also, if you are printing a page from a web browser, the problem may be that the page utilizes frames. First click in the window or frame of the page that you want to print, and then have the program print.

If you are getting blank sheets for other reasons, please visit the ACO Help Desk.

The printers are not working

If the printers seem to be malfunctioning, kindly notify the ACO Help Desk.
