Learning

Music

The music program focuses primarily on music appreciation and understanding the part music plays in our lives with regard to movement, emotion, and culture. Our campers explore the music of other countries, different decades, and all genres. Our campers learn about rhythm, pitch, and timing through songs and activities, and we use a variety of instruments for a hands-on experience. Our campers gain performance experience through their participation in our Family Night.

Art

Art stimulates our senses through the use of various media. Our campers explore the world of art through texture and colour, they learn a wide range of techniques and fundamental concepts such as composition and perspective, as well as some art history. An emphasis is placed on giving the campers a chance to experience and learn things that are not usually covered in school. Art work is taught from a Fine Arts perspective.

Drama

Our campers discover improvisation, environment and character creation, emotion, non-verbal communication, and the use of props and costumes in a professional theatre setting. Emphasis is put on group co-operation and enhancing an understanding of different emotions as portrayed through each child’s actions. Family Night rehearsals and the final performance, expose our campers to the performance side of theatre. Our Drama program uses the University of Waterloo’s Theatre of the Arts to allow the children the experience of being on a real stage.

Computers

Over two weeks, our campers will receive nine hours of “hands-on” computer instruction. Our campers will be using the Faculty of Arts computer facility. Our program consists of website creation, with a multimedia focus. We use Google Search Engine, Microsoft Paint, Gimp, Flashkit, and Movie Maker. The elements of the computer program are primarily based on different online computer software, allowing our campers to learn about productive websites on the Internet. The instruction is designed to accommodate all ages and skill levels of campers. Please return the enclosed Computer Use Contract. Campers(s) and parent(s)/guardian(s) must both sign this contract.
